Escape to the Country

How did I End up on BBC’s Escape to the Country Without Moving?

Although not directly related to the Aesthetics Industry, there is a salient learning point about the type of content you produce for your business.

This 2 minute video tells the story of how a family relocation—from Aberdeen to South Wales—unexpectedly led to national television exposure. It begins in 2021, with my daughter Madi and her partner running a small fermented food business, The Crafty Pickle, and follows the personal decision to move their business closer to family as they prepared to become parents.

What started as a diary of that move, later published as a blog post, caught the attention of Escape to the Country producers in 2025. The programme featured their transition from city to country life, our intergenerational living arrangement, and—unexpectedly—their business, with filming taking place at The Crafty Pickle unit.

Beyond the television appearance, this story highlights a wider point: in an age of AI-generated content, authentic human stories still cut through.

A genuine, personal piece of content helped customers understand the “why” behind the business—and opened the door to BBC exposure without any intentional promotion.

If you create content for your business, this is a reminder of the long-term value of telling real stories. #EscapeToTheCountry #SmallBusiness #ContentMarketing #Storytelling #IntergenerationalLiving #TheCraftyPickle
